Look Up

The short video below is absolutely amazing… Gary Turk has written and spoken words that are deep and relevant to everyone today.
We have stopped ‘living’ in the present and started living in a world that thinks it is sociable via social media but is actually becoming increasingly anti-social.
Before I set up this site, I had made the decision to cut down on my social media use because I was becoming one of the people in the video.

I was taking photos wherever we went, before I ate, everyday and everywhere- not taking in the ‘moment’ as much as I would be without that damn phone in my hand!

The break from social media enabled me to realise that I didn’t need to share what I was doing, wearing, eating with the world. Did anyone really care? Even if I got so many ‘likes’ and comments – did any of it really matter if I was upsetting the people IN my life at that very moment by not connecting with them? What was the point of it all?

Social media is an amazingly effective tool to network and keep in touch, we just need to be careful to what extent we let it take over our lives. Everything in moderation …

Watch the video, listen to the words and let them resonate… reflect…

  1. Hey there! I’ve been reading your website for some time now and finally got the bravery to go ahead and give you a shout out from Houston Texas! Just wanted to say keep up the fantastic job!

  2. True, hence one if the reasons I personally backed off from Facebook. There would be people making comments but when you met them it would be a different story! But I think you need to have a balance. Social media is the way forward. Working in marketing I know how powerful this tool is and to be honest not a lot of people are using it to their full potential. Imagine if everyone was? Have you heard of #stephensstory? That all came about because of social media. So although there can be negatives (as with most things), there are positives too.

    • Yes Firdous I totally agree! Well said. We need to remember we are not the number of ‘likes’ or followers we have.
Surrounding ourselves with positive and good people is just as important in social media as it is in real life.
Yes Stephen’s story was awesome! I loved it!
I’m constantly trying to find a balance- can’t switch off completely because there is so much to learn and gain from social media… but always trying to not get completely sucked in!
