It’s Sunday, came round quickly didn’t it?
The weather is warming up, it’s sunny outside and so our aim today is to get our chores done early and head out as soon as we can.
Many studies have shown that nature and greenery is good for you. Psychologists have found that people that spend more time outside, tend to feel more ‘alive’ and happy.
It has been said that instead of reaching out for a cup of coffee when we feel sluggish, it would be more effective to get outside and connect with nature to become more energised.
A natural setting such as a park, beach, or forest can reduce anxiety and stress levels and even blood pressure. Asthma, myopia and depression have also been linked to a lack of exposure to nature and it has been shown that you may sleep better and even boost your immunity by just heading in to the great big outdoors.
Studies have actually shown that conditions such as hypertension, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and diabetes can be prevented or treated by daily measures of time in a green environment.
It can seem difficult getting out and making the time to do it, especially with the busy lifestyles that we lead today. However, even a few simple changes can help.
Changing the route to work or school, so you pass through a park, ravine, community garden or even just spending a little time in your own garden daily can help.
At lunchtime, instead of eating at your desk or in the canteen, head out to a park, eat and read under a tree. Go for a run if you feel up to it!
So today, while it’s warm and sunny (well let’s be realistic here, it’ll probably be raining cats and dogs in a few days), let’s get out there…
Leave the television, the computers, ipads and even iphones (I say this to myself first!) behind and just stroll, take in the fresh air and breeeeathe…
Let life pass by as you let go of the stress that the coming week is going to bring. Some things can wait.
Just focus on the moment, enjoy it.
