Happy 1st Birthday To You!!!

Hip Hip Hooray! It is exactly a year today that Accidentally Reflective was formed.

It’s been a strange, unplanned year, yet so many amazing things have happened.

How It All Began…

Just over year ago, I hadn’t written in a long time.
Not like this.
Nothing other than the usual letters, emails, reports, emotional Facebook posts -you know the sort.
I had written a couple of pieces on my ‘notebook’ on my phone but done nothing with them.

Then in February 2014 I was approached by a ‘Summer Festival’ Organiser to write the Speaker’s Bios for his website. I very nervously agreed because I was anxious about my words being published online.
I spent the next few days stressed out and started to research the histories of these speakers some of whom I had never heard of.
Half way through, I lost all of my work! Frustrated I remembered why I hated computers.
Then I restarted the research and wrote captivating summaries and sent them off.

Having spent a good number of nights working and writing after the kids were in bed, I realised I enjoyed it.
So I decided to spend the next few evenings writing lengthy pieces about a subject that still bothers me today.

I still haven’t done anything with that.
But I had unleashed the writer in me. I was writing like there was no tomorrow.

Words were pouring out, my fingers couldn’t keep up.

Sunday 2nd March 2014

Then on Sunday 2nd March, I put together a string of words whilst in the shower.
I rushed downstairs and typed them up on the Mac. I remember my children were having breakfast and my husband was finishing off making pancakes.
Within 7 minutes it was finished- I turned the screen for my husband to read and he loved it.

And Sunday was written: https://accidentallyreflective.com/2014/03/02/sunday/

He said you should start your own blog.
My response:

“Really?”

It was a good piece, I am enjoying writing again. Maybe I should consider this. I thought to myself.

After speaking to a couple of people to decide what platform would be best etc I went about setting up the website.
My bottom half was glued to the chair for the next 11 hours! It was a bit of a minefield to figure out but I somehow managed.

Deciding The Name

I knew that I wanted the website name to have the word ‘reflective’ in it, because that’s what I had been doing for many weeks.
With my decision to cut certain things out of my life, I had found myself ‘accidentally’ reflecting more deeply than usual on life and all that it brings.

Having done some research, I found a blog post by Scary Mommy that advised to have a blog name with an ‘A’ in it so that it’s always on top of ‘the list’.

I didn’t understand what that meant at the time.
But I opened my dictionary and put my finger on… ‘accidentally’!

It was perfect because all of this was unplanned and it fitted my personality so well.
I didn’t plan on doing this it just sort of happened…yup… accidentally… ; )

So http://www.accidentallyreflective.com was born.

Nothing has been planned. It’s all fallen into place ‘accidentally’ – how fitting for a website with the same name!
I still don’t know where I want this to go to be honest!

I have met some wonderful people along the way. Learnt so much about the blogging, the writing world and social media.

I want to thank you all for your encouragement and support.
When I read that my words have made a difference, inspired someone, helped them to learn something new or even just evoked a happy memory… I can’t ask for more. It’s all I wish for.

Thank you.

Happy 1st Birthday!
Yay!

I’m off to eat cake to celebrate!

    • TheChelseaPage… I visited your page just now and tried to leave this comment but it asked me to sign into an account I haven’t heard of – so if you don’t mind I will post my comment here…

“A very nostalgic post! I like it!

Really good to see you’re back in the blogging world after a break, it’s not easy and sometimes you just have to do what you have to do.

I’m glad you’ve linked to so many posts on this one – I will come back and take a look at a few later on. Certainly makes it easier when they are featured and linked!

I completely agree – paragraphs paragraphs paragraphs. They are the key to making a page look inviting. And this page certainly was :)”
